With two books releasing February 3rd, Suzzana Ryan is ready to take on the Paranormal Romance world.

Vampire for her Birthday
Beautiful fairy Tawney
M-Since you touch on multiple paranormal creatures what’s your favorite?

S-I have to say I love them all but I truly love the Vampire. To me it is the most sensual of all creatures. My Vampires vary, some are true to the Bram Stoker idea, others are a different species, some are an mutations of humans, evolution gone haywire. I can go on and we have male heroes and female heroes. I have a trilogy that ventures into the future where we meet an alien species of vampire, but of our main hero is of course gorgeous, yet always flawed slightly.

M-Tawny gets a vampire for her birthday, what’s your favorite birthday gift?

S-Truly, my family, my son and his daughters and my husband and my granddaughter that lives with me, all of us away somewhere, anywhere, as long as we are all together.

M-What sparks your writing?

S-Day dreams, I am a daydreamer. I love romance, love and anything paranormal.  I love to travel out of the realm of reality, taking my readers with me. I love erotic love stories; I love to hear that I got someone’s juices flowing. I love it when someone says, “I want more”, or where can I find one like him or her.  I love when my characters come to life, and turn my readers on.

M-What’s better, a dark hero or dark herorine?

S-I love the dark hero. I love a hero with an edge, no so nice, yet can love with all of his heart even though he is reluctant to.

M-Give us a tease of your next book?

S-Ok this was is a full Novel 125,000 wip , Dark Desire of Blood: Unedited Blurb

Dark Desire of Blood

An Erotic Vampire Romance novel

By Suzzana C Ryan

Pearl didn’t see his face at first just the hulking size of him, over six foot tall, powerfully built, an obvious warrior of some kind. He was dressed all in black, which set off his sandy blonde hair that glistened in the moonlight. Who was he? A cop? FBI? Special agent? The murderer? Pearl refrained from breathing; she could do this for hours if necessary. She tried to see his face; but he was intent on looking over the body lying on the floor. Then she heard his voice, deep and intoxicating to her ears.

“Shit, another one drained of all the blood. Fuck and dead,” he said talking to himself.

He got up from his crouch with the ease of a man who was far too physically fit. When he stood up Pearl got a full view of his face, fear and excitement hit her like a cold blast of air. Except for the deep scar across his left cheek, which dragged his eye down slightly, he was beautiful; his male scent strong and it was alluring. Pearl found it hard to ignore.

Pearl then saw him staring into the dark recesses of the room and his eyes now were aglow a dark crimson red, so much like hers when heightened by any kind of excitement sexual or other. Before she could move, he was standing before her his bulk hot and hard pinning her to the wall.

“Son of a bitch you’re a female and honey you’re hot,” he said his voice deep and gruff; she could detect no emotion.

His large cool hand moved up the side of her body along her trim waist to her side and then around to her full breast. He gripped her, but his grip was hard and hurtful, nothing in this creature seemed to be gentle.

“Bitch, I see that you killed her, but had no time to feed. Did I come before you had the chance to suck her dry?” he said his other hand tightening around her throat.

“I didn’t kill the human woman. And take your filthy hands off of me,” Pearl said in a strangled voice as his hand held her neck.

Pearl knew he was a vampire, one of her own kind and a probable warrior. He then spoke to her again his deep voice mesmerizing.

“Make me take my hands off you my little vampire,” he said pushing his massive body into hers. “Now tell me what were you doing here and maybe I ‘ll let you go,” he said with a sinister smile on his gorgeous face.

Pearl tried to push him from her but found that the vampire holding her was incredibly strong. He was a far superior creature; she surmised he’d powers that she’d yet to learn. He was without a doubt a vampire of the warrior class.

She tried again to move from him and she could not budge, he had her off her feet, three inch heeled boots all. Her ankle length leather coat billowed in the breeze as he kept her in his steely grip. She was tired and for the first time in a long time, she felt defeated. Pearl just closed her eyes. She waited, if he didn’t believe that she wasn’t responsible for killing the human he would undoubtedly rip her head off and end her lonely immortal existence.

Charon held her; to him she was as light as a feather. His intense blue eyes took her in, he had seen beautiful females before, but this one was pure perfection. She was a rare breed, she was a female vampire warrior and she was a beautiful one. Charon was afraid that she was the most beautiful female he’d ever seen in his over eight hundred years in existence.

Every woman needs a little Rhett Butler.

“You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how.”

HELL YES.  Truer words have never been spoken.  Who doesn’t like a kiss that makes your head spin?  Remember those make-out sessions from Jr. high, high school or for the late bloomers, college.  The sweep of sweet velvet tongue across your lips that leads to just that little bit more.

And what about a man who is forward, but not physically forceful, instead he makes it so you are the one pulling towards him.  And when he leaves you hanging, because he didn’t just take you in his arms and kiss you in a way that makes you forget basic things, like how to stand upright.  You want him even more.

The phrase ‘I love you to the hate’ clearly describes this emotion.  You can’t stand to look at him, but you spend your days imagining what it would feel like to have him come up from behind, flip you around and hold you against a wall with nothing more then gentle hand that might as well be a vice, because you cannot move.

“And you Miss, are no lady.”

Rhett was the kind of guy that made you think of all the nastiness in the world as, a fun Sunday afternoon instead of something to sit in confessional until the priest runs from the room screaming from the horror of it all.

Rhett spoke to the point and never minced his words.  He was one of the first trustworthy men in many of our lives.  If Rhett loved you, he loved you.  He wanted a night with you, he said it.  Oh, he’d take no for an answer, because contrary to popular belief, he was a gentleman.  There was no foreplay or long soliloquies about love, but there was never any doubt about how he felt.

When I write men I don’t have the brash and boisterous men, but the quiet man who stakes his claim for your heart.  Not that there isn’t a passion that erupts.  Pinned down with the whole of him surrounding you, causing the heart to quicken and knees to become weak.  It isn’t until you break his calm resolve that you start to learn there is strength within him.

Below is an excerpt from Silly Girl.  It is an unedited rough draft.  Sylvia has been in love with the superstar basketball player Matthias Jessup since high school.  She only met him this day due to a snowstorm.  All night she has been fighting off his advances trying not to be a jersey chaser … but Matthias has stated his point, told her what he wanted and left it up to her.

Sitting up straight Sylvia looked down the hall to Matthias’ open bedroom door.  The motto of loved and lost was dancing around her mind.  So what if she became a one-night-stand to Matthias Jessup.  It wasn’t like she had a chance to be more.  This was her one shot at feeling his body against hers for real.  The memories alone made it worth the hard glare of the morning’s sun.

Mustering up the courage to walk the twenty or so feet to his door Sylvia stood up, fluffed her hair and walked straight to the kitchen.  Leaning her elbows on the countertop Sylvia buried her head in her hands and fought the angel and devil on her shoulders.  As long as Matthias didn’t come out and hear her pro-con list she whispered to herself she’d be fine.

Throwing back her shoulders, Sylvia held her chest high and pulled a Stewart Smalley.  ‘I’m good enough, I’m smart enough …” Oh, Jesus she thought as her back fell against the wall.

Come on, Sylvia, she thought, ten more feet, and Matthias will be spreading your thighus.  Okay, now Sylvia had truly lost it.  She was in the really bad rhyming phase of her delusion.  She turned back to the living room when she heard a grunt from his bedroom that stimulated every hormone known to man.  That grunt was exertion, that grunt was a man working, that grunt … needed a groan with a purpose.

Sylvia practically sprinted into Matthias’ bedroom, but didn’t see him.  It took a minute for her to find him in the air above his bathroom door.  He had a pull-up bar mounted in the doorframe and he was actually doing dips to strengthen his triceps.  Sylvia almost fainted at the sight of his muscles tensed.  It was bad enough that he had his shirt off and there was a light misting of sweat that made his chocolate colored skin glisten in a way that caused her have to catch herself against the doorjamb.

Matthias had been so focused he hadn’t seen his observer at first, but when he did, he dropped to the ground and stood facing Sylvia.  The cut of his abdominal muscles that had an eight, not six pack, with the beautiful V right at his hips.  And he was in workout shorts that hung off his ass with such perfection Sylvia began to regret the thought of ripping them from his body.

As she let out the air in her lungs her bottom lip trembled and Matthias took a step towards her.

“Did you need another blanket?” he asked, as Sylvia had forgotten how to speak.

Stumbling through her mind she felt like Ralphie asking Santa for a Red-Rider B.B. Gun.  Think.  Do I need a blanket?  No!  You need him naked on the bed possibly with restraints to keep him place.

“No … um … I was thinking,” Sylvia began as she tried to control herself enough to not ask if he had set of handcuffs around.  “That … are you the damn model for the plastic suit batman wears?”

            “Huh?”

Sylvia composed herself by closing her eyes, but even then she couldn’t help but think of Matthias’ tight chest and what she could do with a can of whip cream.

“I will probably never see you again after tonight,” Sylvia said, as quickly as she could, strangely her voice hit about five octaves higher than she was hoping for.

Sylvia looked at Matthias’ face and prayed that he would show some glimmer of, ‘oh no, I’m going to bring a priest over in the morning to marry us immediately’, okay, that fantasy isn’t happening, she thought.

Matthias stood steadfast and a little bit confused.

“Okay, so what does it matter if you think I’m a trick, because whether we sleep together or not we’ll never be together after tonight so I might as well … go for it.  So to speak.”

Sylvia swallowed hard and nibbled on her lips hoping he didn’t bust out laughing.  To her surprise he looked at her and started to speak, but then stopped.  He seemed to be trying to workout something in his mind.

In one giant step he cradled her head in his hands and kissed her in a way that shook her to the core.  The passion behind his lips sent her into a frenzy.  She wrapped her arms around his neck and tasted his sweet tongue as it gently stroked hers.

With his other hand he lovingly glided down her back and when he squeezed her ass she fell against his firm body.  She could feel the wet heat building in her core the groan she wanted to hear from him came out of her.  He finally released her, she held tight to his flexed biceps and slowly opened her eyes.

“You let me kiss you,” he said with a smile.

            “Yeah, I guess I did.”

Matthias released her quivering body causing her to brace herself against the wall to stop from falling over.

            “That’s all I wanted.”

Interview with Rebel Ink Press author Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy

1/20/2012

With her new book A Patient Heart set for February 3rd release, Lee Ann took time from her busy schedule to answer a few questions for me.  Lee Ann has multiple books coming out this year and all are shelf worthy.

A Patient Heart - As a little girl Catherine dreamed she'd marry Connor Donavan one day and as teenagers, that dream seemed within reach until Connor ended their relationship, left town and broke her heart. Ten years later, far from the old hometown, Catherine reports for work as a nurse one snowy January evening and learns that her new patient is none other than her old love, Connor. When he recognizes her, all the old feelings stir but a few sparks fly too. As Connor recovers from an accident, Catherine realizes she loves him more than ever and he seems to love her too. But after he leaves the hospital and convalesces at her home, his real life intrudes into their idyll. Connor leaves, Catherine stays until his message sends her speeding to Kansas City, Kansas and Connor's club....on Valentine's Day.

M- Thank you for sitting down with me, Lee Ann, you write in more than one subset of Romance, which is your favorite?

L-That’s almost like asking which of my kids is my favorite but the real answer is usually “the one I’m writing” although so far, I think I’ve enjoyed writing the two full length historical romances (coming later this year from Rebel Ink Press) the most.

M-Do you find series or single books more satisfying?

L-If I find a series I truly love, I would say series.  Two of my favorite series are Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander time travel books and Laurell K. Hamilton (another Missouri writer)’s Anita Blake vampire hunter series.

But I have my favorites with single titles too.

M-Living the Ozark Mountains do you take from the scenery inspiration from the land and lakes?

L-Definitely, I do.  I’m not native to the Ozarks but I love these old hills.  And I’ve lived here a long time.  Many of my novels are set in the region.

M-Working with multiple publishers, do you sometimes have to deal with overlapping deadlines?

L-Funny you should ask – but yes.  I’ve been telling everyone I’m up to eyeballs in edits.  In the last two weeks I’ve done edits for three different publishers, one for a novella coming out in May which is a time travel/slip stream/alternate reality involving Elvis called Long Live The King for Champagne Books, the fourth book of my paranormal Love Covenant series for Evernight Publishing, Love Shadows, and my Feb 17 Rebel Ink Press release, In Love’s Own Time.   So life’s been a little crazy.

And somehow it ends up like this more often than not!

M-Which one of your books is closest to your heart?

L-Another hard question but I have to say Guy’s Angel (coming June 3 from Rebel Ink Press).  Guy’s Angel is set in my original hometown of St. Joseph, Missouri and in the old, OLD neighborhood.  It’s not the ‘hood where I lived although it’s the same end of town but it’s where my grandparents lived back in the day.  It’s my uncle’s mail route during my childhood, my great aunt Sophia lived here, my mother was actually born at home in the neighborhood.   This novel is set in the 1920’s and I grew up on my grandparents’ stories.  Writing this one brought back a lot of memories and it also drew the current family together.  Two of my cousins helped with research and details.  One of them also beta read a lot of it to help vet my vintage airplanes in the story and he recognized a lot of the old stories and places.  It may sound strange but a lot of folks back in St. Joe are waiting for this one to come out and there’s a big book release party in the planning.  It will end up being a mega family reunion, old home week, and party all in one.

M-As someone who's spent quite a bit of time in the northwest Missouri area this one sounds like something I'll also be looking forward to checking out.

And the countdown begins ...

As it is January 17th I am starting the countdown.  With a release date of April 17th I officially have three months.  Count 'em 3.  Until Chrysalis is released.  Between now and then I have a pinewood derby, blue and gold banquet, a pack meeting, three round tables, three committee meetings, a super training day, council committee meeting, district committee meeting, two full weekends of campmastering, polar cubs, probably 28 to 36 basketball games and work.

Yet all that is registering is the countdown.  The countdown to getting blogs done, interviews posted, return interviews from other authors, and people expect to be fed in my house and have clean underwear.  As if ... so as my muse plays around with characters I try to jot down what they are saying so I can keep track of their inspiration.  And to my dear friends if I seem frazzled or you wonder why didn't she show up for this or that.  Know I'm only temporarily insane, don't book me a padded room quite yet and hopefully February 17th's blog will be more focused.  Thank you to all who have made this countdown possible.

Interview with Heather Moon, Author of Finding Anna

MP-How hard was it to make the leap from non-fiction to fiction?

HM-Incredibly hard! Not so much the style of writing change but the marketing side of things and also because this was so much more personal I felt much, much more vulnerable about what people said.

MP-In Finding Anna, Alex is looking for adventure. As a world traveller yourself, where was your most adventurous place?

HM-Gosh, there’s a question! I think one of the best adventures has to be in Lesotho. We stayed overnight one night in a Christian mission high in the mountains and we got a ride in the back of a pickup into Mokhotlong early in the next morning.

As we came rattling up the hill into town a light aircraft was making its landing in the field that constituted the landing strip for the local airport. My friend and I looked at each other and without a word we banged on the roof of the pickup and he screeched to a halt, the dust racing to catch us up. We jumped out and ran down, backpacks bumping like mad, to the field and as the Cessna taxied past to the airport we stuck our thumbs out and pretended to hitch a ride.

The pilot stopped, flipped open the window and asked where we wanted to go to. Anywhere, we shrugged, as long as we could go by plane. Sure, he said, let me pick up my passengers and I’ll take you with him through to Maseru…

His passenger turned out to be a local priest who was utterly petrified of flying and sat with fists clenched rigid for the entire flight. His other passenger was a diamond dealer!

That was an amazing adventure!!

MP-Has a cartoon animal ever changed your life like it did for Anna?

HM-No, but lots of strange things have!

MP-A non-fiction writer research is key, how much research did you do for this book?

HM-Hours and hours and hours. The book covers a lot of subjects like sailing, the north west pacific, environmental issues and I had to make sure I got my fact straight.

MP-Do you have any books in the works?

HM-I have two underway as I type. Running lights – romance and The Red Balloon – a non fiction. And I have two more in the pipeline after that!

MP-Where can we purchase Finding Anna?

HM-Amazon.com! http://www.amazon.com/Finding-Anna-ebook/dp/B004EYUHT2/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1322735634&sr=1-2

Oscar Jeffreys from The Chrysalis Series

Picture
Okay, so giggling like a school girl, I sat down to talk to Oscar Jeffreys from Chrysalis.  He's all star sports hero, but now I'm going to dig a little deeper so you can see he's not just another dumb jock.

M-Can you introduce yourself?

O-Oscar Jeffreys, I'm a senior at St. Paul High, I'm a wide receiver for Cougar football and I play the five on the basketball team.

M-Any other accolades?

O-(he laughs) Yea, I'm an Eagle Scout and currently the student body president.

M-Do you have any fears?

O-Not much, Ellie's a little scary when she flips out, but that's because it's not like I can do anything until she calms down.  I am afraid that she might get hurt, seeing as she likes to storm off and blocks out the world around her when she does.

M-What is your greatest desire?

O-Yeah, um (Oscar smiles, but wipes it off his face with his hand) That's kinda like telling what you wished for when you blow out your candles.

M-Do you have anything that could make you cry?

O-Letting down my scoutmaster would hurt me, not sure if it would make me cry though.  He was there for me when my dad was depressed after my mom died.

M-What could drive you to murder?

O-Without good reason I would never harm or kill another living thing.

M-That sounds really familiar ...

O-Scout law.  Good reason would be to protect another person who was weaker than me.

M-You're a big guy, that's most people.

O-I didn't ask to be this big, I just ate my beans when I was young. (Gives me a wink.)

M-Do you have a motto?  Or could you sum yourself up in a word or two?

O-(Leaning his forearms on his knees he looks me in the eye.)  What word would you use?

M-Perfect

O-Not by a long shot, but in everything I do, I'll always push myself to my breaking point.

Interview with Lisa Wiedmeier, author of Cheyenne

1/8/2012

Picture
I sat down with my Kindle at Christmas looking for good read to draw me in, remembering a pitch I had seen a few times I looked for Cheyenne.

Murder, romance, secrets and hidden pasts. Deception from every angle—who's telling the truth?

Cheyenne Wilson's life is thrown into turmoil after her adoptive parents are killed in an accident. With only her best friend Colt to comfort her, she scours through the family archives, hoping to quell her grief. Instead she begins to unravel the mystery behind her birth parents, and her secret heritage. She is a Timeless- a being that ages one year for every hundred human years when they reach their twenties- and of the royal line, destined to gain great power.

But Cheyenne has other problems. The ones who killed her parents want her too, and Colt is hiding something of his own. Surrounded by danger and with few she can trust, Cheyenne must face the dark truth of her past, and choose between a forbidden love that will forever hold her heart, or her destiny...

Sitting down with my computer I contacted Lisa Wiedmeier to see if she could shed some light on the this series that introduces us to a new paranormal character.

M-Cheyenne is the first novel in the Timeless series, looking back has Cheyenne taken you on a journey that you didn’t see coming?

L-I can honestly say that this was something I’d never seen in my future. I never even thought about writing a book, let alone soon to be nine, it just sorta happened. I’m what you would call an accidental writer.

I was going through a bad time in my life, and writing provided me with an outlet. I’d not picked up a book in over 15 years to read for pleasure.

It was my own fault, I was busy doing too much for everyone else and didn’t give me any “me” time. I’m what my husband calls a crazy driven person and now that I look back I can see it a bit more clearly.

It was March of 2009, and I remember it clearly as I’d just gotten back from a vacation in Hawaii. My husband saw me starting to falter, knew I was in crisis, but didn’t know how to help. He challenged me to “stop” and take a moment to breathe and because I’m always up to meet his challenges I did.

I don’t think either one of us knew what a pivotal changing moment this would be for both of us.

It’s not something one likes to admit, but it’s the truth… I fell into a depression. All the things I loved to do no longer held any interest. Breathing, speaking, getting out of bed were all an effort. I also couldn’t seem to stream a coherent thought together to maintain a conversation.

The amazing part in all of this was that somehow after reading a series of books I decided that I could do this, I could write a book. I was out shopping one day and bought some jewelry, and then really started examining it. I guess you could say I looked deeper and saw a story emerging. I then began to write it out. No outline… I just wrote.

Cheyenne has taken over my life and brought me back from the depths of a darkness I’d rather not repeat in my lifetime again. I’ve poured my heart and my soul into the Timeless Series and hope that others will see this when they read.

I’m still the same crazy driven person, it’s just that my focus has now changed.

M-Who’s in control, your characters or you?

L-They are in complete and utter control until I deem otherwise. J

M-Your book was started from a simple ring, what’s your favorite jewelry to get as a gift?

L-I would have to say rings. Necklaces are nice, earrings too, but most times they are the hidden bling. Now a ring… a ring will stand out no matter what. It’s on an important part of your body, which everyone at some point either touches or sees.

The rings don’t have to be big or shiny, but they have to have character. I prefer rings that are more antiqued, look like they’ve been handed down from generation to generation.

Now that I think of it, I probably get the whole ring thing from my grandmothers. When they passed I received rings from both of them that I hold near and dear to my heart.

M-With eight completed books do you have a total number of books you want to complete or are you just going to let the characters lead you?

L-There will be a ninth book, Sahara. Cheyenne’s mothers story needs to be told. I’m also working out some details about a tenth book that would more or less sum up the Timeless Race. Give you more understanding of one of my characters, Callon.  From there… anything could happen. My original plan was just to stop at the fourth book, but the characters took over and then there were eight. J

M-Are you currently entered into any contests?

L-Nope, haven’t decided if I want to or not. There are plenty out there for new authors, but Cheyenne seems to be holding her own with sales and I didn’t have enter a contest to get her there.

M-Do you have a release date for Promises?

L-I’m shooting for early spring/summer. I know I’ve said the eight books are completed in the series, however, each of them need to go through revisions to make them the best they can be.

I’ve been working hard on Promises and have completed about half of the revisions. I’ve got a goal set and am striving to reach it. It’s been exciting to see the numbers grow on Cheyenne and have those readers so excited for Promises to be released.

Why I love Jax Teller

Okay, so his real name is Charlie Hunnam and he's currently staring in the FX show Sons of Anarchy.  I don't know if it's the way he handles himself, his undying devotion to those who have earned his trust and love or the way his ass looks on a motorcycle, but there is something there.

Long hair, scruffy beard and tattoos.  Everything your mother warned you about. Of course when he had his head shaved in Green Street Hooligans I was still smitten.  Although if I ever saw the fights in person I'd be freaked out, watching them on the screen lets all his female fans that he'd throw down to save your honor.

But the biggest draw has to be that I have a new paranormal series running around my head and he is great body double for Geirr.

Now I must return to watching the last season ... no spoilers please.  I've been busy and I hate waiting a week to see my current crush take a shower.

You hate polls.  Okay I get it.  There's always a poll out there asking what you want.  Although one person wanted to have character interviews.  So that I can do.  I'm going to work on interviewing Ellie.  I have to see if I can get her to regress.  The Chrysalis series was started three years ago and I have four books complete in it.  In those books Ellie grew up.  To give you a Chrysalis interview I'm going to have to jump in my DeLorean and travel back in time.   Look for Ellie's interview soon.  Until then you'll have to listen to my ramblings.  Actually I could interview Sylvia from Silly Girl, it's taken seven months for her to finally give me her last name.  And she didn't give it to me, Matthias had to, but his shirt was off and he had just finished some crunches and lat pulls so I didn't mind staring ... I mean listening.  What can I say, my characters run the show.  I'm just their puppet.
